About this deal

The AS-30 was pretty unplayable after 100 clears but it’s definitely in a bad shape after 200 clears and completely unplayable. Overall, not too bad though. Staying in decent shape for the first 50 to 70 clears while also not breaking any feather stems even after 200 clears gives it decent marks. AS20 is ok, but sometimes feels a little sloopy. AS30 is a little better, but not too far from AS20. And the feather shuttles are divided into two types: AEROCLUB and AEROSENSA AEROCLUB AEROSENSA AEROSENSA Whilst I’m just like you and dissatisfied at the colossal increase in the price of feathers, there is one brand that has been consistent in its quality control above all the rest from the dozens of tests I’ve done. No surprises therefore when I name the brand as Yonex. Whether you’re playing club badminton, league badminton, tournament badminton or booking a court with friends, you have to play with the best shuttle for your budget. As Yonex are probably the most expensive brand, this may mean you won’t use them, but they are the best.

Sadly, the Aeroplane shuttles were the slowest of the three being nearly 2 feet short of the service line. Victor were slightly better and Yonex were spot on.

Feather or plastic, the choice is yours

I’m an avid tester of shuttles as I do a lot of coaching. I’ve been coaching for over 20 years and playing for over 30 years. Because of its good quality, the AS-50 is used in a lot of the major international badminton tournaments. Oh man, look at all that damage to the feathers! All of the feathers started to crumble at this point but none of the feather stems actually broke. The cork itself is in good shape as well. The feather diameter decreased by .1 cm (.04 in), or a 1.5% difference after 200 clears. The cork circumference, on the other hand, remained the same. I think AS40 last the most. It can last about 2 games if you hit it well. AS50 is little shorter than AS40, but it's generally above average.

The AS-50 became pretty difficult to lift now as all of the feathers are now very used with one of them being almost completely gone. It’s half falling apart at this stage but no feather stems broke and it still doesn’t wobble. Before I get into the tests, I’d like to note that I used AS-50s that had a speed of 3. You can see in the below table that tubes with a speed of 3 are ideal for temperatures between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius (71.6 to 82.4 degrees Fahrenheit). Now, you have the proper knowledge to choose the right badminton shuttle depending on your budget and playing style. I just proves that you need always need to test for yourself. Like you say, some brands have issues with quality and consistency. It’s pretty costly when 3/4 shuttles per tube are faulty. In other words, the true price of the shuttles are 20-25% more than what you paid. Does this make them expensive. The number next to AS-* indicates the performance and quality level, 50 is the best, and 10 is the worst. AEROSENSA 10 (AS-10)
