About this deal

Abus claims a weight of 220g for my size medium, European certified helmet, which is exactly what it weighed on our scale. Riding review of the tech features

Abus AirBreaker | Evans Cycles

At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. The cycling helmet market is a crowded space and there’s no shortage of other options out there. Both Abus and Lazer have cheaper alternatives to the Airbreaker and Genesis that offer just as much protection with a bit of extra weight and a slightly less top end finish. Make no compromises. In cycling, the best rider with the best equipment wins. Winners bet on the AirBreaker.Overall, the Abus AirBreaker is a great helmet that offers superb ventilation at a very light weight. It's priced towards the top end of the market but the quality is excellent. Verdict The AirBreaker's overall shape is the same as that of Abus's GameChanger aero lid that Liam reviewed here on road.cc and liked very much. Aero helmets tend to be heavier than most others and ventilation is usually compromised, hence the introduction of the AirBreaker. Our medium sized test model hit the scales at just 214g and it has a similar level of ventilation to the Abus Aventor that we reviewed last year. FlowStraps: Aerodynamic, flutter-free and skin-friendly thanks to specially developed strap profile I always fumble with them and get annoyed when the left and right sides are uneven – I, for one, won’t be able to appreciate the added complexity of the helmet. The ABUS helmet straps do the job, and they fit snuggly right beneath the ear lopes even without adjustability. The ABUS Gamechanger is excellent for riding on the flats at a relatively faster pace. The aerodynamic benefit makes the Gamechanger a choice for marginal gains. Meanwhile, the ABUS Airbreaker, without question, is a well-ventilated helmet. With 11 air inlets and 3 air outlets connected with flow channels, you will certainly be guaranteed a cooling ride.

Airbreaker | Highlights | ABUS

At ABUS, we love what we do and give it our best every day. Just like the athletes in the various disciplines with whom we have been working together for years in a spirit of trust. It is a partnership of equals, where everyone contributes their knowledge and can rely on the other. One other feature that's worth a mention is stowage for your eyewear. I tried out half a dozen pairs of glasses with this helmet and they all fitted securely in the ports. No worries at all there. Peter is a fastidious mechanic and will not settle for anything less than perfect when it comes to bike setup, whether it be a child first bike or a highly integrated top-tier time trial or road bike. Thanks to the honeycomb structure of the innovative Multi Speed design, the AirBreaker always offers the best possible aerodynamics and at the same time ensures optimum ventilation. Because the Multi Speed Design doses the ventilation as it is needed: Maximum ventilation on slow, mountainous stages and optimum aerodynamics on fast, flat stages.

Bad air? Ventilate in time with the AirSecure! Our CO2 detector AirSecure reliably indicates the indoor air quality: In this way, you prevent headaches, malaise and an increased risk of infection. Practical for offices and schools.

Now, I know everyone claims their helmet has some fancy venting tech or some kind of trans-warp speed engine to speed up airflow and venting but, this is the first helmet I’ve worn while climbing in 25-degree heat that I’ve actually thought 'I can feel the air blowing through my helmet' - in this regard, it's one of the best road bike helmets I've tested. Overall, I’m seriously impressed with the Airbreaker. It oozes quality in both construction and design, and the fit is superb, as is the adjustment. The advantage of MIPS is debatable – and often contentious – but if there’s even the slightest chance of a beneficial effect I’d rather have it than not, though. They’re both designed to be aero and airy, with both brands claiming great aerodynamic performance without sacrificing ventilation for hot day climbing comfort. From cruising around town at the weekend to pedaling to work Monday–Friday, riding a good bike transforms travel time into quality time seven days a week
